Team Entry & Regulations

This is a competition for Sussex eligible players only.

 

Any guest teams will be invited or selected on a case-by-case basis at the discretion of the Series, and may have to pay a fee to compete.

Marquee or guest players must contact the clubs already announced in the competition, and not the Series directly.

Overview

Team Entry (Summary)

  • A maximum of 8x Male + 8x Female team spaces across the Series

  • NO FEE to play in the Series

  • Team Size of up to 12x Players (per leg); injury replacements may be used across the Series

  • Teams must compete across the entire series for their players to be eligible for any Series prizes or awards

  • Each Team has a "Spend Cap" and will lose Series points if they go over it (see below)

  • Players are not permitted to change teams across the Series (without written approval from the Series)

  • A maximum of 5x non-County eligible players per team, across the entire Series (see criteria below)

  • "Barbarian-style" Teams are permitted, subject to the criteria (below)

  • Players must be 18-years or older on the day of the leg in which they play (and must comply with Regulation 15.6 of the RFU). If in doubt, please contact Sussex RFU.

  • Teams must provide their own pitch-side first aid cover for their team that meet the requirements for Festivals laid down by the RFU for Pitchside First Aid & Immediate Care Provision for Training and Matches.

Regulations

1) County Eligibility

 

A player may only play in the Sussex 7s Series as a "County Eligible Player" if:

  • The Player was born in Sussex; or

  • The Player has completed not less than three months Residence (as defined below) within Sussex in the preceding 12 months of the Series; or

  • The Player has played or been selected in a match-day squad for the County in a previous County Championship Competition or National U20 Championship Competition; or

  • The Player is an Effectively Registered player of a Club within the County on the date of the Series.

Residence

  • Means where the Player is actually residing within Sussex when the Player first plays in the Sussex 7s Series, provided that the Player has resided therein continuously for a period of three calendar months immediately preceding the date of playing.

  • The Player shall be held to be actually residing in Sussex only if the Player’s own home or ordinary place of residence, which comprises premises which the player ordinarily and regularly uses as the Player’s home and in which the player ordinarily and regularly uses as a sleeping apartment, be within the boundaries of Sussex, or having no other home or ordinary place of residence of the Player’s own, the Player’s parents’ or guardians’ ordinary place of residence is situated within the boundaries of Sussex, or being a member of the Services the player is stationed in Sussex, the Player’s station counts as residence.

  • For a full-time bona fide student whilst attending a recognised educational establishment Residence means either the Player’s permanent home address or the Player’s (for the time being) student accommodation address;

2) Barbarians Teams & Squads

Players wishing to create a team or squad from different clubs are permitted to do so, but all players must fall within the County Eligibility Criteria (above). These teams are not permitted to have guest or marquee players (a.k.a. "ringers") at any time during the series, and must be endorsed by a Sussex Affiliated RFU club before they are allowed to compete in the Series.
